Jean A Stout

Jean A. Stout, 88, of Freeport, passed away peacefully Friday September 9, 2011 at Manor Courts in Liberty Village. Born on July 6, 1923, she was the daughter of William F. & Johanna Marie (Zimmerman) Schweitzer. She married Clifford (Buck) Stout Jr. on December 24, 1951 at Bethany United Church of Christ in Freeport. She was a lifetime member of Bethany Church, of which her grandparents were founding members. She served as the church treasurer for 28 years. She was instrumental in procuring and overseeing the necessary financing, without a mortgage, for the congregation in the building of their new church. She served for many years as a Sunday school teacher for primary age children, and was past president of the Ladies Fidelia Circle. During her years at Freeport High School she received honors in both shorthand and typing, and worked as a cashier in the school cafeteria. While in high school she also worked part time at the former State Bank, and continued there after graduation for an additional seven years. She then took a position in the offices of Dr. Elwood Kortemeier and Dr. Felix Lownik as a bookkeeper/receptionist and held that position for many years. After raising her three children she worked in the family business, Stout Insurance Agency, for twenty years before retiring. She enjoyed square dancing, picnics at the park, playing golf with other couples from her church and bowling on the ladies church team. She was also a member of the Church choir for over 35 years. Her life was devoted to her family and her church. She was an example of what a truly loving, honest and religious person should be. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, her daughter, Bonnie J. Remmers of Freeport, sons; Timothy J. Stout of Aiea, Hawaii and James D. (Tina) Stout of Freeport, as well as granddaughters; Melissa Remmers of Freeport, Kristin Remmers of Normal and Jenna and Jessica Krahmer of Freeport, she is also survived by her brother Alfred Schweitzer of Ridott, her sister Clarice Fouke of Freeport, and her sister-in-law Sally Penticoff of Freeport. Preceded in death by her parents and one brother Carl Schweitzer. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Bethany United Church of Christ with Pastor Bill Blomberg officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at Bethany United Church from 4:00-7:00 P.M., there will also be a visitation Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial fund has been established for Bethany United Church of Christ and for Friends Forever Humane Society.
