Janice "Jan" L. Geary

Janice L. "Jan" Geary, 79, of Freeport, Illinois went to her eternal home Saturday, January 13th 2018 with loved ones by her side. Jan was born July 17th, 1938, the daughter of Wales and Ruth (Waterbury) Geary. She grew up in Lanark with her sisters Lorene Roberts, Pat Franey and Diane Pauley. Jan was a member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren. Jan graduated from Lanark High School with the class of 1956. In 1959, Jan graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Freeport. Jan was recruited as an R.N. for Cook County Hospital where she had completed affiliations during training. Due to her love of travel, Jan worked as an R.N. in many states. Her battle with cancer brought her back to the Freeport area. Jan was an accomplished carpenter, wood worker, artist and writer and poet. Because of her love for nature she also worked at Timber Lake in Mt. Carroll and Krape Park in Freeport. Jan's hobbies included wood working, especially wood burnings of old barns. Jan and Mary Geary were joined in marriage at St. John's UCC, where they are members on October 24th, 2015. They resided at Lincoln Towers in Freeport. Jan was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Parents and Sisters. She will be dearly missed by her spouse Mary Geary, children Greg Hollister (Casey Brown), Janell Santiago (Gerald), Grandchildren Kegan Morales and Isabel Santiago along with many dearly loved nieces and nephews and her extended family members and friends. Her love touched many, especially children. A special thank you to FHN Hospice and her nurse Lindsay Wagner who provided loving care and laughter. Also to the staff on 3 East who showered Jan with love and care in her transition to her new Home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Jan's life will be held at a later date.
