James L. Gastmann

James L. Gastmann, 84, of Freeport, died Thursday, August 15, 2019 at FHN Memorial Hospital. James was born October 10, 1934 in Ridott, Illinois, the son of Arthur and Bertha (Shaffer) Gastmann. He was a 1952 Freeport High School Graduate. He proudly served his county in the US Army from 1954-1956. James married Jeannine Diddens October 16, 1954 in Freeport. He worked at Inter City Box & Plastic for many years before working at Rock Valley Packaging. He was a former member of Zion Church and current member of Freeport Eagles Club #679. He was also a member of the Freeport Mason Lodge #23. James was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. Surviving are his wife, Jeannine Gastmann of Freeport; son, Mark Gastmann of Rock Island; two daughters, Robyn Schoonhoven of Rockford and Kelly (Donald) Robertson of Freeport; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Daniel, Elizabeth, Timothy, Jennifer, Donald III, Matthew and Stacey; also surviving are nine great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tim; and two brothers, Gary and Paul. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday August 21, 2019 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Burke Tubbs. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
