June 7, 1943 — July 23, 2022

James "Jim" Walter Mordick, 79, lifelong Freeport resident, passed away, Saturday July 23, 2022, at UW-Madison Hospital. Jim was born June 7, 1943, in Freeport, the son of Francis J. and Virginia (Oswalt) Mordick. He married Jeanne Jeffrey December 21, 1984, in Freeport. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Freeport High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 in the Vietnam War as a helicopter mechanic. Jim served his apprenticeship for Ironworkers Local 498 (Rockford). He was a Journeyman Ironworker until starting his business, J&J Used Auto Parts (later became A&B Auto Truck Parts) in 1970 with his business partner Jim Jeffrey. Jim along with his wife, Jeanne, and Jim Jeffrey, started A&B Mini Storage in 1989. Jim will always be remembered for his competitive spirit, whether he was playing cards or negotiating business deals, he loved to win. He loved taking on a challenge. He was brutally honest, you either loved or hated him. Under his rough exterior Jim had a soft heart. In his free time, he loved going to his cabin in Canada and enjoying his favorite past time, walleye fishing. He was a huge fan and supporter of any racing, going to local dirt tracks or following NASCAR. He was extremely proud of his 1937 Chevy Coupe race car #292 which he raced at local tracks when he was young. Surviving is his wife, Jeanne Mordick of Freeport; sister, Joy (Larry) Thompson of Ridott; uncle, Robert ‘Butch" Mordick of Freeport; nieces Alyson (Jason) Berlin and Bethany (Kelly) Layne both of Houston, Texas; nephews, Luke and Zachary Jeffrey both of Dakota, and Zane Anderson of Navasota, Texas; cousin, Jim Ditswoth; special buddies, Mel Mann, Bill Myers, and Keith Simmons; and his beloved beagle, Abby. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and brother-in-law, Jim Jeffrey. Per Jim's wishes cremation rites have been accorded.
