James "Jim" K. Weik

March 30, 1951 — July 3, 2024

James “Jim” Weik, 73, of Freeport, IL passed away Wednesday July 3, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born March 30, 1951 in Chicago, IL to Robert and Lila (Oftedahl) Weik. On March 13, 1982 he married RoxAnne “Roxi” Smith at Lanark Methodist Church.

Jim graduated from Freeport High School in 1969 and attended Highland Community College before being drafted to the United States Army where he served in Korea as a Medic Specialist from 1971-1974.

He began his career working at Eagles Foods before taking a position as Account Manager for American Bottling (currently known as Keurig Dr. Pepper) in Rockford, IL. He was dedicatedly employed there for 41 years before retiring in March of 2023.

Jim loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. He spent many years hunting at the “Ponderosa” with his buddies. He also enjoyed golfing and spent many Saturday mornings at the golf course with his kids and friends. Jim loved to travel, going to Mexico with Roxi and friends and going to Lake Wisconsin every summer with his family were among his favorites. Jim was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, he especially loved watching them play sports and hearing about all of their adventures. Despite being surrounded by a family full of mostly Packer fans and traveling to Green Bay every August for family weekend, he remained a loyal Chicago Bears fan.

Jim was a man of few words, but when he spoke, he did it with truth and meaning. His presence exuded such a calm and positive energy that could make anyone feel comfortable and welcome. To know him was to love him.

Jim is survived by his wife Roxi of Freeport, IL; two sons Tyler Weik of Freeport, IL and Matt (Amanda) Weik of Freeport, IL; daughter Jennifer (Pete) Smith-Norman of Freeport, IL; brother Robert Weik of Belvidere, IL; six grandchildren Colby (Sydney) Smith, Sedona Smith, Chloe Smith, Kamryn Bradbury, Kalli Bradbury, and Aiden Weik.
