J. Ellsworth 'Ells' Lewis, 90, formerly of Forreston, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Manor Court in Freeport. Ells was born in Brill, Wisconsin on September 23, 1922 to John and Josie (Dahl) Lewis. They moved to Forreston, in 1939 where Ells graduated from high school in 1941. On June 23, 1951 he and Margaret Gassman were married. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2007. Ells was an active member of the Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forreston. Ells and Margaret operated the Lewis Dairy Bar in Forreston for 45 years. Ells also had a delivery route for Union Dairy in Forreston and Shannon. Ells enjoyed singing solos, singing in the church choir, and singing with his brothers. He enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends. He is survived by two brothers, Vernon (Shirley) Lewis of Columbus, NC and Jim (Pat) Lewis of Pinehurst, NC; two sisters-in-laws, Betty Lewis of Montana and Naomi Lewis of Forreston; brother-in-law Joe Twigg of Forreston; and many nieces and nephews; and a special neighbor and friend, Robert Dillavou of Forreston. Ells was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister and four brothers. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday March, 19, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Scott Ralston will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
