Homer F. Meiers Jr., a devoted family man, passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 90 in Freeport, Illinois. He was born on December 29, 1934, in Rockford, Illinois, and spent his life dedicated to his family.

A skilled tool and die maker, Homer was employed for an impressive 42 years at Micro Switch and Honeywell. His commitment to excellence in his craft was evident throughout his career, earning him respect and admiration from colleagues and friends alike.

He was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church, where he found community and fellowship. His interests included being an active participant in the Freeport Antique Engine Club, and he had a deep appreciation for collecting antiques and I.H. tractors. Homer thoroughly enjoyed attending flea markets and antique shows, where he connected with like-minded enthusiasts and discovered treasures of the past.

On November 14, 1953, Homer married Katherine Bendick in Freeport, a union that exemplified love and partnership. Together they nurtured a family that continues to thrive. He is survived by his loving wife of over 71 years, Katherine Meiers;  beloved daughters, Debbie (Ken) Long of Freeport and Marcia (Dave) Huff of Forreston; and brother, Roger (Sue) Meiers. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: Eric Long, Jason Long, Sarah Long, Heather Lee, and Ryan Lee, as well as his great-grandchildren, Dalyn, Fiona, Daphne, and Isaac Long.

Homer was preceded in death by his son, Bradley; and two brothers. The memory of their time together, full of joy and shared experiences, will remain cherished by his family.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation, which will take place on March 8, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, located at 503 N Lily Creek Road, Freeport, Illinois. The funeral service will follow immediately at 2:00 PM, providing a time for reflection and celebration of Homer’s life and legacy. Rev. Natarsha Gardner will officiate. 

Homer F. Meiers Jr. will be remembered for his warm spirit and unwavering dedication to his family.
