Herman Hummel

Herman O. Hummel, 89, of Orangeville passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at home. He was born October 1, 1922 in Spooner, WI. to Kaspar and Mary Hummel. On May 9, 1949 he married Mary E. DePolis. Herman served in the Navy from 1942 through 1945 on the battleship USS Nevada, seeing action including the Normandy Invasion and the Pacific theatre. He worked for the family cartage business following his discharge from the Navy. In 1957 he joined the General Casualty Company spending the last 21 years of his career in the Freeport office, retiring in 1988. Herman is survived by his four daughters, Gina Hummel of Littleton, CO, Elizabeth (Thompson) Rogers of Holly Springs, N.C., Joan (Larry) Meihsner of Mequon, WI., and Mary Kay (Larry) Orto of Loveland, CO; five granddaughters, Nicole Koplin, Justine Meihsner, Emily Claiborne, Jennifer Mozzetti, Monica Anselmo, and one grandson Jordan Rogers; and two great-grandsons Dominic and Adrian Claiborne. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Hummel, his parents and eight brothers and sisters. A Memorial Service will be held at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home on Saturday, February 18, 2012 with visitation at 1:30 PM, and the memorial service at 3:30 PM. Interment and services will be held at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI later this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
