Herman A. Fransen, 94, of Asheville, NC went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2014. He died at the Charles George VA Medical Center, CLC-Hospice, Asheville, NC. A native of Freeport, IL, he was born January 13, 1920, the son of Benjamin Fransen and Charlotte Bornemeier Fransen. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 59 years, Elvera (Sally) Fransen; his son, Neal B. Fransen; brothers Leroy and Lawrence Fransen; and sister, Betty Peterson. Herman retired in 1982 as a department supervisor from Structo Manufacturing in Freeport, IL. He was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Club in Freeport, IL. Herman and Sally enjoyed square dancing, and serving their community through church and volunteer work. It was often said Herman never met a stranger. Herman served his country in WWII as an aircraft mechanic. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Heitter (Steven) of Weaverville, NC; sister, Joyce Shadewalt of McConnell, IL; grandchildren Otto Meinert of Asheville, and Angela Threadgill (John) of Avondale Estates, GA; great-grandchildren Ian and Ava Meinert, and Alene Threadgill. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3PM, Wednesday, July 30, in the Chapel, at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Pastor Keith Johnson, from First Lutheran Church, will officiate.
