Henry “Corky” G. Winter, 94, passed away on July 28th 2023 after a short illness. He was born on Sept. 28 1928 in Freeport IL to August and Frances (Wilkey) Winter. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1946 and enlisted in the National Guard. Henry served in the Korean War from 1951 until 1953; fighting in the battle of Heartbreak Ridge and receiving 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He married the love of his life, Virginia Mae Adrian, on Sept. 3 1954. He was a lifelong member of Bethany UCC Church. He worked many years for his brother James at Winter Construction and for Rich Zimmerman Olds/Cadillac car dealership; retiring from there in 1991. Corky was a true family man who deeply loved all his children, grand and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James (and his wife Francis) Winter, son Kirk Winter, and son-in-law Steven Mooney.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughters, Adrienne Mooney and Lauri Winter, son Eric (Arlene) Winter, and numerous grand and great (great) grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday August 5, 2023 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation 10:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Mark Vlad will officiate. A memorial has been established in Corky’s memory.
