Henry L. Carter, Jr.

April 4, 1934 — February 2, 2018

Henry "Sonny" Lee Carter Jr., at age 83, left his earthly home, early on the morning of Friday February 2, 2018 at 1:45 a.m. in Swedish American Heart Hospital, to enter his heavenly home. Henry was surrounded by his wife and other family members. Henry was born in Water Valley, Mississippi to Henry Carter Sr. and Everlee Robinson on April 4, 1934. Henry moved to Freeport as a young man, where he met his first and only Love. He married Mary Elizabeth Threadgill on January 16, 1960. To this union they had one daughter, Carla Marie Carter (deceased); two sons, DeWayne Carter and Henry Carter III. He was also the grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren. Henry served in the United States Army. Henry was employed by Structo/Thermos Manufacturing Co. for 42 years. Henry was a member of St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church for many years. Henry loved to go fishing and doing yard work. He loved many different types of music. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Carter Sr. and Everlee Robinson; also step-mother, Cynthia Carter; and daughter, Carla Marie Carter. Henry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Mary E. Carter; two sons, DeWayne (Jackie) Carter and Henry Cater III; four grandchildren, Brianna, Lacarius, Jasmine, and Daniel; sister, Ethel (Evans) Allen of Dayton, Ohio, Pauletta (Edward) Collins, Lavonna (Marvin-deceased) Mays, Sarah Carter all of Freeport; Claudette (Jerome deceased) Thomas of Dubuque, IA., Marilyn Carter of Dallas, TX., brother, Quincy (Carmen) Carter Sr. of Freeport; special friends, Sam and Jackie Newton, Donnie and Lucy Maupin; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 10, 2018 at St. James CME Church (1001 E. Empire St.). Visitation is 5:00 p.m. - 7: 00 p.m. Friday February 9, 2018 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home.
