Helen M. Thorn

Helen M. (Longamore) Thorn, 94, of Freeport, died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Stephenson Nursing Center. She was born January 2, 1924 in Freeport to Budd and Alta (Bingner) Longamore. On January 18, 1947 she married LeRoy N. Thorn in Durand, IL. For many years Helen and LeRoy worked on numerous farms in the area. They then moved to Florida and Helen worked for JC Penney. She was a member of Rock Grove Lutheran. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, travel, fishing, playing cards, and growing African violets and orchids. Surviving are her son, Russell (Michael Magno) of Freeport; daughter, Linda (Michael Doubler) Jones of Freeport; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Solace) Thorn of Bradenton, FL; three grandchildren, Renee Salazar, Stephanie Jones, and Lori Jung; and three great-grandchildren, Coty Salazar, Dalton Salazar, and Christian Jung. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Donald and Dale Longamore; sister, Della (Pearson) Kirkpatrick; and a son-in-law, John Jones. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday September 20, 2018 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with Rev. Gavin Brandt officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
