Helen L. Moore

Helen L. Moore, 88, of Freeport, passed from this life on March 17, 2018 at Pearl Pavilion: A Premier Rehab & Healing Center in Freeport, IL. Helen was the daughter of Albert, Sr. and Mary Eva Smith, and was born June 7, 1929 in St. Louis, MO. To this union were born Helen's brother Albert, Jr. and Helen's twin sister, Ellen. She was educated in the Tougaloo, MS, school district and attended Tougaloo College. Helen moved to Freeport in 1948 and on September 22, 1956, in Freeport, IL, Helen and John L. Moore were married. Helen was employed at Burgess Battery, Structo Manufacturing, and Honeywell Micro Switch. She retired from Honeywell Micro Switch in 1986 after 26 years of service and was a member of Micro Switch 25 Year Club. She was a member of First Church of God where she served on the Usher Board as well as the Financial Secretary. She was also a former member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Directors where she served as President and Secretary. There were some very special people who never forgot Helen from the moment she entered the Pearl Pavilion's facility until the day she departed this life. Thank you to Roosevelt & Catherine Banks, Sis. Eva Craig, Rev. Eula Guess, Sis. Mahalia Guess, Pastor Anjuray Sanders, John & Mamie Shipp, and Pastor Everlena Thurmond. The staff at Pearl Pavilion and Unity Hospice was a great support during her time of need. Survivors include her husband, John L. Moore, of Freeport, IL; seven daughters, Deborah (Charles) Ryders, Rockford, IL, Regina (Willie) Amous, Selena (Freddie) Jones, both of Memphis, TN, Joni Hunter, Georgina Haynes, Audrey (Jerry) Howard, Kimberly Norton, all of Freeport, IL; three sons, Laurence (Fannie) Moore, Augusta, GA, Reginald (Eloise) Moore, Albuquerque, NM, Frederick Moore, Memphis, TN. Helen had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, a host of cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Albert, Jr., her twin sister, Ellen in infancy and one great-granddaughter, Tomesha Marie Burrow. There will be a visitation on March 23, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Homes, LTD. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on March 24, 2018 at Faith for Miracle Deliverance & Worship Center with Presiding Bishop J. Arthur Wade, is the Pastor, where Rev. Eula Guess will officiate. Visitation will be at 12:00 noon until time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established at First Church of God.
