Harry E. Foley, 86, of Freeport, died Thursday July 20, 2017 in his home surrounded by family. Harry was born March 14, 1931 in Freeport, the son of Harry D. and Frances J. (Miller) Foley. He married Beulah B. Bawinkel on April 21, 1962 in German Valley. Harry served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict onboard the USS Albert T. Harris stationed in Japan. He worked for over 30 years for the Illinois Central Railroad in various positions including Conductor and Brakeman. He was a 1949 graduate of Freeport High School, where he was a member of the Pretzels Football, Basketball, and Golf teams. Harry was an avid golfer, he enjoyed following the PGA and LPGA Tour, he also enjoyed following all Freeport High School athletic teams. He wintered in Palm Beach, Florida for many years. Harry enjoyed vacationing to Disney World, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and going on Caribbean Cruises. Harry attended Community Reformed Church. Surviving are wife, Beulah Foley of Freeport; daughter, Fawn (David) Gray of Freeport; brother-in-laws, Dennis Bawinkel of Freeport, and LaVerne (Connie) Bawinkel of Holland, MI.; cousin, Nancee (Rod) Rosen of Poinciana, FL.; Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-laws, Gloria (Henry) Miller of German Valley and Renate Bawinkel of Freeport. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday July 24, 2017 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Bawinkel will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for All Veterans Memorial Park and FHN Hospice in Harry's memory. Burial will take place in Silver Creek Reformed Church Cemetery.
