Harriett A. Fryer

Harriett A. Fryer, 79, of Freeport, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Harriet was born on September 29, 1933, in Apple River, IL. The daughter of Harry C. and Mary B. (Metcalf) Sigafus, Harriet was born the ninth of the thirteen children. She married Ralph Fryer in Freeport on February 14, 1953. We celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Valentine'™s Day. It was a marriage to be envied and admired. Harriet was a 1952 graduate of Orangeville High School. She worked as a waitress and at Micro Switch for a short time before being a full-time stay at-home mom for many years. Later, she worked at Amity Daycare for 27 years before retiring at age 76. Harriet was very passionate about caring for the babies and children at Amity. Harriet enjoyed collecting dolls and angels, and her two favorite hobbies-stock car racing and family-kept her and Ralph very busy. Harriet was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxilary. Harriet was preceded in death by her mother and father, five brothers, Mike (Jenny) Sigafus, Charlie (Charlene) Sigafus, Richard (Carol) Sigafus, Gordon 'Bud' (Norma) Sigafus, Earl (Paul) Sigafus; two sisters, Violet (Lyle) Hammer and Eleanor (Bud) Williams. She was also preceded in death by five sisters in-law, Carol (Richard) Sigafus, Gayle (Don) Fryer, Sandy (Frank) Fryer, Doris Fisher, Jenny (Mike) Sigafus and four brothers in-law, Lyle (Violet) Hammer, Gerald (Helen) Fox, Paul (Dolly) Siemens and Bob (Veva) Manthei. She is survived by her loving husband, Ralph and children, Robert (Gena) Fryer, Vicky (David) Scovel and Penny (Gary) Borneman all of Freeport.
