Harold J. Meyers

Harold J. Meyers, 90, of Freeport, died Monday, December 17, 2012 in the Stephenson Nursing Center. Harold was born on June 6, 1922 in Freeport, the son of John and Orel (Shippee) Meyers. On August 19, 1945, Harold married Lavina M. Sorn in Freeport. Mrs. Meyers passed away on July 28, 2009. Mr. Meyers served in World War II for the Air Corps, during his service Harold was a Prisoner of War. Harold worked for the Monroe Chevy Dealership, Metal Specialties, Freeport Park District and Parkview Home before retiring in 1981. Harold was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, American Prisoner of War Association, DAV, and the American Legion. Harold enjoyed watching and coaching his sons and grandsons sporting events. Surviving are two sons, James (Judy) Meyers of Sun Prairie, WI. and Larry Meyers of Freeport; two grandsons, Jeffrey Meyers of Wisconsin and Matt Meyers of Freeport; three granddaughters, Jennifer Meyers of Sun Prairie, WI., and Melissa and Stephanie Meyers both of Freeport. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lavina Meyers. Funeral services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Stephen Precht officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Chapel of Peace. A memorial has been established in his memory.
