Harold Horner

Harold H. Horner, 89, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 in his home. Born on September 30, 1922 in Freeport, the son of Clair and Flossie (Gross) Horner. Mr. Horner was the Supervisor of the Physical Plant at Highland Community College for 20 years, retiring in 1990. He married Marjorie Fleming on August 10, 1948. She died on August 17, 2008. Harold served in the Army during WWII, and later on served in numerous reserve units with his son. His memberships included; Amvets, lifelong member of the Eagles Club, former Germania Club and was a graduate of Freeport High School in 1940. Harold enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his daughter in law, Bonnie (Jack) Schramm of Poinciana, FL.; two nephews, Mick (Julie) Fleming of Bakerfield, CA. and Jim (Diane) Fleming of Purcell, OK.; three cousins, Kay (Don) Meinders of Freeport, Steven (Linda) Gross of Holland, MI., Theodore (Cynthia) Gross of Freeport; special friends, Mary Kay Baumann, Carolyn (Tom) Weaver, Barb Mahoney, Carol (Lester) Niemann and Karla Niemann; also neighbors. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and son Hal. Funeral services will be Friday 11 a.m. at Burke-Tubbs Freeport, Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs.
