Harold 'Harry' E. Schneiderman, 88, of Freeport died on Thursday January 26, 2012 at Stephenson Nursing Center. He was born May 30, 1923 in Stephenson County and was the son of William Harm and Lena (Ruthe) Schneiderman. He married Mabel Neberman on June 7, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2001. Harry coached Little League, American Legion, and helped start the Freeport Merchants travelling Baseball Team which je also later coached. He was instrumental in working to build the Krape Park ball diamond in the 1950'™s and helped to get lights for the diamond years later. A pitcher and shortstop for fast pitch softball himself in younger years, his love for sports encompasses his entire life. He coached his sons and church league basketball. Harry refereed basketball and umpired baseball and softball for many years. Former member of Bethany Church, he was very active in the church teaching Sunday school and was an Elder and the Superintendent of Sunday school for a number of years. Harry worked as a supervisor for Burgess Cellulose for over 30 years and retired. Having grown up on a farm and loving the land he then decided to work for Farm Service for a number of years before retiring again. He spent many days golfing area courses and watching basketball and baseball games f all the local area teams. Harry was always willing to help people whether it was his neighbors, his friends, or his family. He is survived by his two sons, Jerry (Pat) Schneiderman of Freeport, and Doug Schneiderman and friend, Linda Graham of Freeport; one brother Kenneth (Leola) Schneiderman; four grandchildren, David (Connie) Rohlman of Dekalb, Daniel (Kathy) Schneiderman of Davenport, Amy Schneiderman (Scott Trimble) of Freeport, and Kristin (Ben) Bayle of Dekalb; and eight great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and two brothers Lester and Robert Schneiderman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday February 3, 2012 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. There will be a visitation from 5-7 on Thursday also at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial gardens. A memorial fund has been established for Golden Meals and the Stephenson County Nursing Center.
