Harold G Meier

Harold George Meier, 82, of Freeport, died in his home on Friday July 1, 2011. Harold was born May 18, 1929 in Pearl City, Ill, the son of William J. and Fern (Thomas) Meier. Harold attended Pearl City Schools . Mr. Meier was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving for his country during the Korean Conflict. On June 7, 1952 Harold married Carol Bolender in Freeport. Mr. Meier owned and operated Harold'™s Shell Service Station. He later worked for Western States Insurance Company retiring in 1998. Mr. Meier was a member of Eagles Club #679. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching birds and squirrels, and doing Sudoku puzzles. Survivors include his wife; Carol Meier of Freeport, four daughters; Catherine (Tom) Diddens of Freeport, Donna (Dave) Blair Of Freeport, Diana (Greg) Clark of Monticello, Wisconsin and Patricia (Thomas Abel) Burnett of LeClaire, Iowa. Seven grandchildren; Christopher Wilson, Brandy Wilson, Sheri (Ryan) Dyson, Jay (Kendra) Clark, Troy (Ruby) Clark, Wesley Burnett and Mitchell (Kimberly Matteson) Burnett. Also surviving are Twelve great- grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his son William Joseph Meier. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Willis Schwichtenberg officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs.
