Guy "Bill" Lomax

Guy J. "Bill" Lomax, 88 of Leaf River, died Friday February 19th, 2016 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, IL. He was born August 4, 1927 in Freeport, IL the son of Guy and Manta (Johnson) Lomax. He was married to his high school sweetheart Nola (Miller) Lomax on June 3rd, 1947. She passed away in Dec 1988. They resided in Forreston before moving to Leaf River in 1958, where he began his career with Country Companies from 1957-1969. He then had the opportunity to be a Field Representative for the IL Society for the Prevention of Blindness. He was one of the founders of the IL Lions Glaucoma Unit and also the Eye Donor Collection Centers and Hospitals in the State of IL.. He returned to selling insurance and retired from there after 35 years. He joined the LR Lions Club where he became District Governor and then International Director. During his time of being an International Director, he received 5 Presidential awards, President award for Leaf River and the highest award being the Ambassador of Goodwill. Along with numerous other awards. He was Chairman of the Leaf River Lions Parade which was part of the Leaf River Summer Daze Festival. During his 20 plus years he helped develop one of the finest small town parades in Northern IL. He was a member of the Leaf River United Methodist Church. He was given the Citizen of the Year award in 2015. He was past President for the LR Firemans Association and the Forrestville Valley School Dist. Bill has been a member of the Ogle County Farm Bureau for over 50 years. A life member of the Mt Morris Moose Lodge and Samual H Davis Lodge No 96. He was also Director of the German American State Bank for 17 years. During his busy life he always found time to go golfing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed camping at Woodhaven, vacationing with his family and keeping family traditions going over the years. He enjoyed his winter retreat in Florida. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart Nola, Sister Louise and granddaughter Christina. Survivors include daughter Valorie (Dean) Roberts, Milw WI, son Brad (Roxy) Lomax, German Valley, daughters Kim (Dave) Cox, Leaf River and Jodi Miley, Murphysboro, IL He had 11 grandkids and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be February 23, 2016 10:30 A.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral home in Forreston. Uncle Bill Stees will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral home in Forreston with a Lions service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
