Gregg Allan Giffrow

April 18, 1954 — September 27, 2023

Gregg Allan Giffrow, 69, of Freeport, IL, passed away at Walnut Acres Nursing Center on September 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. Gregg was born on April 18, 1954, in Dixon, IL, to the late David Giffrow and Mary Giffrow.

Gregg attended Shannon High School before embarking on his career. He dedicated many years of his life to working at the Forreston Cheese Factory. Known for his sense of humor, Gregg was a funny individual who brought joy to those around him.

Gregg was a lifelong Star Trek fan. He also enjoyed playing computer games and engaging with others on social media. He had a love for music, especially with a mix of his favorites by Enya, Yanni, Josh Groban, Dolly Parton, and the Rat Pack. He found solace and enjoyment in these hobbies. Gregg was a Cubs and Bears fan (which made for fun banter with his dear brother, Chris). He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

Gregg is survived by his mother, Mary Giffrow of Ely MN, and siblings: Debra (George) Bright from Mountain Home, Arkansas, Chris Giffrow, and Karen (Mark) Sopcic, all from Freeport; Aunt Carol Stouffer of Ely MN; Uncle Tom (Janice) Giffrow of Brownsville TX, step-mother, Maureen [Sue] Giffrow, daughter Melissa Giffrow (Rob Holt), and grandchildren Julius Holt and Alana Holt, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, his uncle Jim Stouffer, and his beloved dog Cookie, and cat Polly.

The family sincerely thanks all of Gregg’s caregivers at Walnut Acres Nursing Center and all members of FHN Hospice for the wonderfully loving care shown to our loved one (and us).
