Grace Uldene Schatz

Grace "Gus" Uldene Schatz, 92, of Winnebago formerly of Freeport, passed away on, January 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. Grace was born August 6, 1931 the daughter of Chester and Cora "Thelma" (Roach) Strohecker. She married Joseph Henry Schatz on September 7, 1971. He preceded her in death. Grace started her working career at the Northwest Telephone Company in Freeport as a switchboard operator. She was a Nurse's Aid and worked at Ortiz, Stephenson County Nursing Home and Structo Machinists. Grace enjoyed keeping a tidy home, loved doing yardwork and absolutely adored babies. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family. Grace is survived by her children, Gail Bond of Freeport, Anthony (Bonnie) Oudekerk and Timothy (Kim) Oudekerk both of Rockford, Terry Oudekerk of Freeport; Grace also raised two of her grandchildren, Jo-Dell Reithmeier of Rockford and Jonathan Borger of Florida; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Christinea Roach; three brothers, Dale, Chet, Delmer; three sisters, Ella, Sadie and Marion. Funeral service will be held 11:00am on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home 504 N. Walnut Avenue Freeport, IL 61032 with Pastor Don Jamerson from First Free Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial of Cremated Remains will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens on February 3, 2023. A memorial has been established.
