Gordon (Gordie) Frederick Ross, aged 83, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024. Gordon was born on July 16, 1941, to Frederick and Marion (McGuffin) Ross. He was raised on the family farm along with his sister Judy (Loran) Greenfield and brother Brian Ross. He was a 1959 graduate of Forreston High School and a 1964 graduate of Bradley University. Freeport was his home for over 50 years.
Gordie married Judy Jones in 1965 in Chicago. They thoroughly enjoyed raising their three boys, Bradley (Crystal), Jason (Betty) and Eric (Karrie). Special memories are the times Gordie spent with his grandchildren, Abigail, Blake, Carter and Xander, lighting off fireworks and giving tractor rides. He had his priorities: family first, followed by gardening and travel adventures. He was a patient, quiet, gentle, loving man who enjoyed woodworking and spending time outdoors in his spare time.
Fourth of July was his favorite holiday, during which he would show off his grilling skills as well as his pyrotechnic skills to the pleasure of all. As a lifetime member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, he served on Church Council, Property Committee and Helping Hands. He was an electrical engineer for 42 years with Micro Switch/Honeywell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services are planned for 11:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2025 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, with Pastor Shellie Knight officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
