Gloria J. Schmelzer

Gloria J. Schmelzer, 74, of German Valley, died Thursday, October 4, 2018 in her home. Gloria was born March 4, 1944 in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of Phillip and Louise W. (Van Brocklin) Broach. She married Oral "Bud" Schmelzer Jr. on January 26, 1970. Bud died June 15, 2002. She worked at Micro/Honeywell for 28 years before retiring in 2000. Gloria was a member of The Bridge Church of Freeport, where she made many friends. She was an avid Chicago Bears, Bulls, and Cub fan. Gloria was known for always helping others. She had four dogs that meant the world to her. Gloria's most enjoyable times were spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving is her son, Todd (Lisa) Broach of Radcliff, KY.; daughter, Lisa (John) Keller of German Valley; sister, Leanna Rae Satter of Freeport; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dwight; and brother, Ronnie Broach. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 6, 2018 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Pastor Jay Donaldson will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Gloria's memory.
