Glen Wendell Holmes, 93, a longtime Pearl City area farmer, died Monday, July 23, at Provena St. Joseph Center, Freeport. He was born April 12, 1919 in Lena, Illinois. Glen was one of Thirteen children to Oliver Wendell and Anna (Lobdell) Holmes. Mr. Holmes married Elaine Darlene Kuhlmyer at St. John'™s Lutheran Church in Pearl City, Illinois on January 10, 1945. They milked cows and farmed for many years. Elaine died on October 1, 2002. Glen attended Lena schools, and started farming near Damascus at age 19. He was a lifelong dairy and hog farmer in Stephenson County near Pearl City. He retired in 1979. He continued to help and make decisions for the farm even in his later years. He was a member of St. John'™s Lutheran Church, Farm Bureau, AMPI, and very active in early years of soil conservation and helping younger men get started in their farm careers. Mr. Holmes is survived by his daughter; Janet (Fred) Schubert of Pecatonica, Illinois. His grandson, Jason (Tracy) Schubert of Janesville, Wisconsin. Four great-grandchildren; Caitlin and Melanie Harris and Alyssa and Sierra Schubert. His great-grandson Chase Frederick (Harris) Fitzpatrick. One brother, Maurice (Elaine) Holmes and two sisters; Lois Phillips and Thelma (Robert) Jordan. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Julie Ann (Schubert) Harris at age 36. Also five brothers; John, Francis, Ellwyn, Wayne, and LaVerne. Four sisters; Dorothy Kleckler, Marilyn Anderson, Evelyn Herbert and Esther Reuber. A funeral service for Mr. Holmes will be Thursday, 2:00 P.M. at The Chapel of Peace at Chapel Hill memorial Gardens, Freeport.
