Gladys Rose Swalve, 83, of Shannon, passed peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Born December 7, 1929 in Clayton, Wisconsin to Carl and Augusta (Kohn) Sass. She married Wayne D. Swalve on January 29, 1949. They farmed in rural Shannon and were married for 57 years, before he passed on December 17, 2006.Surviving are her sons Dale (Charlene) Swalve, Darryl 'Mookie' (Linda) Swalve, both of Shannon and Bruce Swalve of Addison, IL. Five grandchildren, Chris (Jacy) Swalve of CA, Ross (Kim) Swalve of CA, Lance Swalve of Bensonville, IL, Tina (Curt) Grove of Chillicothe, IL and Chad Swalve of Shannon. 12 great-grandchildren: Destiny, Cole, Casy, Cade, Carsyn, Jessica, Marcus, Cadence, Kaliya, Corissa, Julian and Mia. Brother Hank (Margaret) Sass, Sister-in-laws, Beatrice (Gordon) Poppen, Pat Swalve, Lois Swalve and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Karen Bolton; granddaughter, Jennifer Swalve; daughter-in-law, Joni Swalve and her beloved brothers and sisters. Gladys enjoyed spending time with her family, especially playing cards with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid CUB fan and always made wonderful meals and baked goods for her family and others. She was a member of Shannon Bethel United Methodist Church and volunteered her time at the food pantry. She had a passion for keeping her 'diaries' and usually had the final word in many family discussions. Funeral services for Mrs. Swalve will be Tuesday 11:00 A.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Rev. Steve Aram, Pastor of Bethel United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of service Tuesday. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Memorial fund has been established in her name.
