Gladys I. "Babe" Mcginnis

Gladys I. McGinnis, "Babe", Freeport, IL., passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021 - her 97th Birthday! She was born in Freeport to the late Charles and Ida (Mayer) Denton. On July 19, 1945 she married Vincent C. McGinnis in Tacoma, WA. They celebrated 71 years together. Gladys served as Postmaster for many years at Orangeville. She maintained friendships with many other Postmasters from surrounding communities. Gladys and Vince enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Florida. She is survived by two sons, James McGinnis, Freeport, and Charles "Joe" (Lynette Schiefer) McGinnis, Green Bay; three grandchildren, Melissa McGinnis, Jeni (Kelly) Pagel and Brian (Kris) Swanson; and six great-grandchildren. Glady's was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vincent; and all her brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 9:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Freeport, followed by a funeral Mass for Gladys and Vincent at 10:00 am. Father Timothy Barr will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Freeport.
