Gladys E. Koertner

Gladys E. Koertner, 95, of Freeport, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Stephenson Nursing Center. Gladys was born September 4, 1921 in Pearl City, the daughter of Tom and Flossie (Buss) Smith. She married Deane B. Koertner on September 9, 1945. Mr. Koertner passed away January 13, 2005. Gladys was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Freeport Home Extension. She did volunteer work for the Journal Standard in her free time. Surviving are her daughters-in-law, Candace Koertner of Freeport; and Phyllis Singley; four grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Koertner, Kevin (Molly) Koertner, Stephanie Koertner, and Justin (Amber) Koertner; and eight great-grandchildren. Also a special mention to Peggy and Preston. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Dale and David; and two sisters, Irene Rayhorn and Beatrice Babb. Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Friday December 23, 2016 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in her memory.
