Gladys I. DeVries, 85, of rural Shannon, died Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Provena St. Joseph Home. She was born on July 30, 1925 in Ogle County, the daughter of Herman and Jennie (Abels) Swalve. Gladys and her husband farmed the family farm in Carroll County for many years. She married Lloyd DeVries on December 18, 1945 in Forreston Grove Church. Gladys was a member of Forreston Grove Church. She was also a member of the Women'™s Fellowship at the church and taught Sunday School in the beginners department for many years. Survivors include her husband Lloyd DeVries of Shannon; one son, Larry DeVries of Shannon; one daughter Lois (Paul) Graff of Casper, WY.; one sister Doris (Horner) of Shannon; one sister in law Betty Swalve of Mt Morris; four grandchildren, Mark (Cheryl) Graff of Casper, WY., Greg Graff of Casper, WY., Jill Graff of Douglas, WY., and Eric Graff of Grand Canyon, AZ; one great grandson Jason (Emily) of Laramie, WY. Preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ivan. Funeral service will be Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Forreston Grove Church. Rev Jeremy Cheezum will officiate.
