Gertrude "Gertie" A. Bornemeier

Gertrude 'Gertie' A. Bornemeier, 95, formerly of Forreston, died Wednesday August 14, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph center in Freeport. She was born in Ulpaward, Germany on February 3, 1918, the daughter of Jan and Anna (Barfs) Ruter. Gertrude married Henry Bornemeier on December 9, 1939 in Clinton, IA; Henry died on August 8, 1981. She was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forreston. She enjoyed cooking, baking, following the Chicago Cubs, word search, solitare, and spending time with her family especially grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Gertrude is survived by her seven daughters Betty Hepler of Freeport,IL Sally Fager of Forreston, IL, Joann (Lyle) Coffman of Kankakee, IL, Beverly (Virgil) Hayunga of Freeport, IL, Linda (Craig) Brinkman of Rockford, IL, Doris Pittsley of Freeport, IL, and Nylia (Darrel) Swalve of Forreston, IL; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and her special friend Linda Colcord. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, sisters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, and three son-in laws. Funeral services for Gertrude will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday August 19, 2013 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forreston with Pastor Scott Ralston officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston. Burial will take place at White Oak Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her memory.
