Gerald L Keeney

Gerald L. 'Jerry' Keeney, 71, of Freeport, IL died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in F.H.N. Memorial Hospital. He was born June 26, 1940 in Freeport the son of Oscar and Francis Loyce (Hopkins) Keeney. He was a graduate of Freeport High School, class of 1958. Jerry married Sandy Keep on November 30, 1959 in Mount Morris, Illinois. Jerry worked as a Fireman for the Freeport Fire Department for 23 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He taught at the University of Illinois Fire Institute. Prior to the fire department, he was employed by Burgess Cellulose. He later worked at Verizon for ten years. Jerry was a member of The Freeport Moose Lodge. He coached Little League Baseball from 1960-1974. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Jerry also enjoyed bird watching, fishing and in his later years researching genealogy. Mr. Keeney is survived by his wife, his children; Gerald L. 'Jerry' (Tracee) Keeney, Jr., of Lena, Leann Morgado of Freeport, Rick Keeney of Freeport, Brian Keeney of Freeport and Carrie (Guy) Livingston of Sylvania, Ohio. Eleven Grandchildren, Two Step-grandchildren, Six Great-grandchildren and Three Step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ronald and his sister-in-law Irene. A funeral service for Mr. Keeney will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday July 2, 2011 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home Freeport. Visitation will be Friday, 4:00 '" 7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs.
