Gerald Clark Hunefield

Gerald C. Hunefield, 90, of Freeport, IL passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025 in his home. He was born September 19, 1934 in Freeport, IL to Charles and Gladys (Volz) Hunefield. Gerald served in the United States Army. In 1959, Gerald married Edie Haas. Edie passed away in October of 1997. Later in life Gerald met and married Shirley Engling and remained married until his passing. Gerald was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Freeport. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. On May 20, 2002 Gerald even had a hole-in-one at Decatur Lake Country Club. Gerald liked traveling all over with Shirley, especially their time spent in Germany. They always looked forward to bowling and their trips with friends to the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Fort Atkinson, WI.  Later in life, Gerald always took great joy going to his step-grandsons baseball games.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Freeport; two daughters Pat (Brian) Freese of Vero Beach, FL and Sandy Hunefield of Freeport, IL; step-daughter Vicky (Dave) Busker of Freeport, IL; and several grandchildren and several step-grandchildren.

Preceding Gerald in death are his parents and first wife Edie.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday April 5, 2025 at Bethany United Church of Christ, Pastor Leon Ishmon officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Freeport City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Gerald’s memory.
