Gerald L. Herring, 88, of Freeport passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side, to join the love of his life in heaven, Marie F. (Arnold) Herring Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Gerald was born May 18, 1925 the son of Ralph and Mary (Sigafus) Herring. Gerald and Marie were bonded in matrimony in the Lords name in Nora, Illinois on November 30, 1957. Marie passed away October 24, 2003 after almost 46 years of marriage. Gerald owned and operated a can route and bulk route carrying milk for PET Milk from Shullsburg , Wisconsin for many years. He later worked for Kelly-Springfield for 22 years until retirement in 1987. Gerald and Marie spent many years after retirement vacationing together and enjoying each other's company. They were inseparable. Gerald and Marie joined Cedarville Baptist Church in 2002. Gerald served the Lord in many roles over the years as a devoted Christian: head of the Church Finance Committee, labors of love for his Church Committee for the Youth Group at Cedarville Baptist Church. Gerald gave the Senior Group its name; The World Problem Solvers (WPS Group). Gerald was cherished and loved by his children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter and church family. Gerald is survived by his son, Ronald L. Herring of Arlington Heights, Ill. His daughter, Jacqueline M. Penticoff of Freeport. His grandchildren; Troy (Lisa) Marcum of Bolingbrook, Travis Penticoff of Freeport , Jonathan and Kendra Herring. Also, his great-granddaughter(daughter of Troy and Lisa) blessedly bestowed the name Marie. Gerald was so very proud that his sweet great-granddaughter is carrying on the legacy of his wife that he loved so dearly. A funeral service for Mr. Herring will be Saturday, 10:30 A.M. at Cedarville Baptist Church. Rev. Gene McIntosh, pastor will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Warren. A memorial has been established for Cedarville Baptist Church.
