Georgia L. Jenkins, 76, of Freeport, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, August 15, 2016 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. She was born on September 29, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of Charles A. and Georgia Barnes. Georgia married Floyd Jenkins in Rockford on September 1, 1973. She attended Elmhurst College, Masonic Hospital School of Nursing and also earned her MSN degree from DePaul University. She was a dedicated nurse and later served many patients via Elder Care. She retired after 38 years of service. Georgia was also a dedicated and beloved member of First Baptist Church (Freeport) where she sang in the choir, worked in AWANA, and served as a deaconess. She also enjoyed calling on shut-ins. Georgia was a faithful volunteer for CONTACT and was very involved with Christian Women's Club and an active member of NW IL., Republican Women. Georgia and her husband ran a gift shop out of their home. She continued running various computer based businesses as Georgia always enjoyed making a buck. One of the greatest joys of Georgia's life was her cocker spaniel Danielle. Surviving is Georgia's step-son, Larry Jenkins of Forreston; step-daughter, Linda Jenkins of Rockford; and several cousins. Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and step-mother Bessie. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday August 19, 2016 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Caleb Kolstad officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Entombment will be at Oakland Cemetery & Mausoleum. A memorial has been established in her memory.
