George Thompson, Jr., 84, of Freeport, died Saturday September 10, 2011 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford. George was born on December 3, 1926 in Freeport, the son of George and Hazel(Kosier) Thompson Sr. George married Dorothy Hamor in Rockford in April 1948. He was an Army Veteran. He worked for the Civil Construction Company in Rockford for over 25 years. George enjoyed sports especially NASCAR. He was a member of the V.F.W. and a lifetime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Survivors include; three sons George Thompson III, Tim (Sherry) Thompson and Brian Thompson, daughter; June Lamb, four brothers; Donald (Betty) Thompson, Calvin (Barbara) Thompson, Preston (Nancy) Thompson and Richard (Mary) Thompson all of Freeport, two sisters; Jenny Potter and Ida Carey both of Freeport. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, son; Justin, daughter; Jean, one brother and 5 sisters. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home with Rev. Tom McClellan officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening 4:00-6:00 P.M. at Burke Tubbs Funeral; Home.
