George M. Hoffman, 87, of Freeport passed away peacefully on March 7, 2019 in his winter home in Venice, FL. He was born on February 17, 1932 to James and Lola (Cheeseman) Hoffman. George graduated in 1950 from Aquin Central Catholic High School. He was a Local Union 219 sheet metal worker, active member for 40 years and a member for a total of 67 years. Avid golfers, he and his wife Cathie would spend their winters in Florida golfing and meeting up with Freeport friends. He was married for 35 years to Barbara (Youmans) Hoffman who passed away in 1986. George is survived by his wife of 32 years Cathie (Woods Hanson), four daughters: Cheryl (Tom) Dearth, their children Melissa Korte, Ashley and Lyndsay Dearth; Cynthia (Patrick) Curry, their children Kerin (Beau) Cummins and Kevin Curry; Rebecca (Jim) Bauer, and her children Eric White, Michelle (Bernard) Shipp; Beth Hille, and her children Sara Hoffman and Krista Hille; and his son Bill Hoffman (Tania) and his children Heath (Katie) Hoffman, Haley and Hillary Hoffman. Three step children, Kirsten (Michael) Laurie and their sons Aidan and Fitz, Eric (Olwyn) Hanson and their children Patrick, Letty and Michael; and Paige Hanson (Ron Fiamma). George is also survived by three sisters: Frances (Robert) Brunkan of Dyersville, IA, Anita (Fred Blackbourn and Alice Gouge of Freeport. He was also survived by 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. George will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, love of family and his ability to build or fix anything. A memorial mass will be11:00 A.M. Thursday March 21, 2019 at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for Aquin Athletics and Hospice Service.
