George J. Baal

George J. Baal, 80, of German Valley, IL passed away Friday February 17, 2023 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport, IL. He was born November 22, 1942 in Seward, IL to George and Annetta (Borgmann) Baal. On July 26, 1969 he married Erma Shelly at Zion Church in Freeport. George worked for Burgess Battery for 25 years and was also employed at Wil Kleen. He enjoyed jokes and loved to joke around. George would often be found in his garage monkeying around. He also loved watching birds and had a collection of cardinals. Most of all, George enjoyed spending time with his family and playing cards and dominos with them. He is survived by his wife Erma Baal of German Valley, IL; son Dion Baal of Rock Island, IL; daughter Jodi (Randy) Manus of German Valley, IL; sister-in-law Velda Baal of Freeport, IL; five grandchildren Madison (Kinser) Hodson of Springfield, IL, Mackie (Hunter) Young of Columbus, OH, Zachary (Molly Mixer) Baal of Quincy, IL, Baylee (Adam Green) Manus of German Valley, IL, and Emma Manus of German Valley, IL; and two great-granddaughters Charlie Baal of Columbus, OH and Lennox Baal of Quincy, IL. Preceding George in death are his parents, two brothers; Donald Baal, Dale (Pat) Baal, and two sisters; Dorothy (Fred) Stewart and Marilyn (Wayne) Peck. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday February 25, 2023 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport with Chaplain Sean Huguenin officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his memory.
