Gary "Amo" Amodeo, 82, lovingly known as "Amo the Barber" passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, April 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Amo served his community with a pair of scissors for 55 years and just over 170,000 haircuts, but who's counting? AMO did! His barbershop was not just where you went for a trim- it was a place of laughter, storytelling, and friendship. Known for his love of fast cars, unforgettable sense of humor and continuous jokes, Amo had a natural way of making everyone feel welcome.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marilyn Amodeo; daughter Nicole Amodeo, son Santo Amodeo, stepsons Rory and Rusty Wirtjes, and stepdaughter Susie Rivas, along with several beloved grandchildren. When he was not behind the barber chair, Amo was in the kitchen, cooking his favorite dishes- especially his fried green tomatoes, Alfredo sauce, and of course, the famous Amo's barbeque sauce.
He was a passionate golfer, fierce ping-pong player and a lifelong fan of fast cars. But more than anything he loved sharing stories from his past- often exaggerated, always entertaining. Per his wishes no formal service will be held.
