Frederic Boyd "Fritz" Gill, 84, of Freeport died Thursday, September 24 at The Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe. He was born August 4, 1930, in Freeport, the son of Brook F. and Roberta (Emrich) Gill. He attended Freeport schools and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity, and ROTC. An Eagle Scout, he spent several summers on staff at Canyon Camp near Apple River. On December 26, 1953 he married Nancy L. Zanoni. He served 1953 - 1955 in the United States Army in Korea, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Fritz worked for A.C. Emrich Men's Wear, the Freeport Journal-Standard, Micro Switch, Structo, Eleroy Lumber Co. and for over 25 years as Advertizing Manager for the Northwest Illinois Farmer newspaper. Over the years he also worked as a Realtor, selling, and reselling many Freeport homes. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas parish where he ministered for many years as an usher. In retirement, Fritz enjoyed maintaining his yard and home, volunteering with Golden K Kiwanis and Am Vets, planning high school class reunions, golfing, and playing cards with family and friends. Additionally, he held memberships in Jaycees, Germania, Knights of Columbus, Elks, Park Hills Golf Course, and the YMCA. Survivors include his wife of Freeport, three sons, James of Greendale WI, Michael (Sharon) of St. Peter's, MO, and Thomas of Savage MN; and three grandchildren, Zachary, Marissa and Elise Gill. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, with visitation from 9 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
