Fred Allen Kasten

Fred Allen Kasten, 73, of Freeport, passed away, Thursday December 8, 2022, at FHN Memorial Hospital. Fred was born October 22, 1949, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Fred and Emma (Ward) Kasten. Fred was a graduate of Freeport High School and Northern Illinois University. He proudly served his country in the US Army. Fred married Linda Charles November 16, 1991. He worked for Strippit Inc. as a field technician until his retirement. Surviving is his wife, Linda; son, Chris (Margaret) Berg; daughter Wendy (Kyle) Holmes; five grandchildren that were the love of his life, Brianna Bruehler, Alexis Berg, Cayley Berg, Ethan Holmes, and Liam Holmes; sister, Carole Fluegel; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, and three half-sisters, Ida Palmer, Phyllis Foley Poffenberger, and Jean Uphoff. A celebration of life for Fred will take place in January.
