Franklin B. "Frank" Veer Sr., 92, of Freeport, died Monday October 19, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Veer was born January 18, 1928 in Freeport to William M. and Myrna Marie (Dyson) Veer. He married Sharon K. (Peck) Gordon on December 19, 1970 in Freeport. Frank proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is a lifetime member of the Am Vets, VFW, and American Legion. He drove stock car at the old Freeport racetrack in the 1950's. He drove semi for sixty years cross country as well as working for Freeport Machine Works for 13 years. One of Frank's favorite things he did in life was raising, riding and breaking horses, which included many trail rides. Above all he enjoyed being around and spending time with his family. Surviving is his wife, Sharon "Sheri" Veer; sons, Dr. Franklin "Frankie" (Tami) Veer Jr. of Joplin, Missouri, Michael "Mike" Veer of Portland, Oregon, Robert (Debra) Veer and David (Jill) Veer, and Donald "Doc" (Stephanie) Veer all of Freeport; step-son, Richard "Rick" (Sherry) Gordon Sr. of Freeport; daughter, Pamela (Patrick) Dunlavey of Lanark; 21 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren; including special grandchildren, Christopher Schweigert, Josh and Mary Ostrom; brother, Ernest (Shirley) Veer, Sam (Sandy) Veer and Ronald Veer all of Freeport, Ralph (Kathy) Veer of Georgia, John Veer of Strawberry, Arkansas; sisters, Neva Barthel, Charity (Dave) Sullivan of Freeport, Beatrice "Peachie" Dean of Martin, Tennessee, and Grace (Rockie) Heck of Winslow; and special son William "Billy" Bumford. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Rosemary Quintero; brothers, Charles "Bud" Veer , William "Bill" Veer , Karl Veer; brothers-in-law, Benny Quinter, Edward "Dutch" Gaulrapp, Eugene Barthel, Ken Bissell, Hiram "Butch" Schmitz; sisters-in-law, Juanita Veer, Monique Veer and Charity Veer, Eileen Veer and Evelyn Veer. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday October 23, 2020 at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Visitation 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Thursday October 22, 2020 also at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home.
