Florence J. Giles

Florence J. Giles, 91, of Freeport, IL passed away peacefully, Friday July 26, 2024 at Manor Court in Freeport, IL. She was born January 15, 1933 in Shelbyville, IL to Howard and Dorothy (Beck) Hill. On November 25, 1951 she married Edward Giles in Freeport, IL. For many years she was a member of Home Extension Unit in Stephenson County. Florence worked at Spurgeons Department store for many years, starting with setting up their window displays and eventually became the Office Assistant. She would later work as a teller at Kent Bank for 14 years, she became one of the customers favorites. Before her final retirement, She volunteered at the Visitors Center in Freeport. Florence enjoyed floral decorating and spending time with her friends and family. She welcomed all of her children’s friends and treated them like family.

She is survived by her husband Edward of Freeport, IL; three children Rick (Joyce) Giles of Freeport, IL, Pam (Doug) Banks of Dakota, IL, and Bob Giles of Boulder, CO; five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and five nieces.

Preceding Florence in death are her parents, four brothers, one sister, and grandson Jason Giles.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday August 1, 2024 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, IL. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family burial of cremated remains will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Florence’s memory.
