The Life of Flora Lee Newton ~ Obituary ~ Flora Lee Newton was born November 21, 1940 to the late Cliff and Lula Belle Davis in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She married Boston Newton Jr. on December 25, 1957 and to this union 6 children were born. In 1967, Flora, Boston and their six children moved to Freeport, Illinois where she raised her six children. She worked for Micro Switch, Structo and Vitners. She retired after 44 years of service. She became a faithful member of St. James CME Church after being invited by her close friend Nannie Edison. There she accepted Christ and served in the Kitchen Ministry for many years. Flora, endearingly known as "Granny", loved her family and friends and her greatest joy was cooking for them. Every holiday or special event, you could always stop by her house for a plate filled with love and a stomach full of laughter. She also enjoyed taking bus trips with her family and friends. She guided her family with strength, compassion, and fortitude. Those values will be carried on through generations to come. Flora at the age of 80, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 7, 2021. She went to her heavenly home to be with our Lord and Savior. She leaves to cherish memories : her five daughters; Lucy Ree (Donnie) Maupin, Dianna Newton, Cassandra Jamison, Lucinda Lenoir and Chevron Newton of Freeport, IL, one son; Boston III (Rickey) Newton; six granddaughters; Avasa Newton, Latrice Newton, Dominque Jones, Ebonee (Joey) Baskerville IV, Trianna Hughes, Raven Lenoir, Chante Jamison, Akayla Jamison and Tomiah Burrow; four grandsons; Boston Newton IV, Marshall Hughes, Tevin Brooks and Milan Hughes; twenty great-grandchildren, one brother; Henry (Dorothy) Davis of Boynton Beach, Florida, one sister; Willie Mae Davis of Lake Worth, Florida and a host of nieces and nephews. Also, cherishing her memory are her honorary daughters; Angela Brown, Annetta Brown, Lana Pearson, Lisa Ross, Rosalind Cody-Veasley and Tori Walker, special friends; Verdine "Mama T" Allen, Mary Carter, Nannie Edison, Maureen Hodges, RoseAnn Kennedy and Parthenia Williams, the St. James CME family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Cliff and Lula Belle Davis, brother; Charlie Davis, sister; Sarah Banks and special companion Frank West. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Freeport, Illinois. Visitation will be on Friday, May 21, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at St. James CME Church in Freeport, Illinois and Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Freeport, Illinois. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, Illinois. Arrangements were made by Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home.
