Ferne Marie Ottenhausen, 89, of Freeport died Friday in F.H.N. Memorial Hospital, Freeport. She was born July 11, 1922 in Cedarville, Illinois the daughter of Charles and Delma (Bier) Lutz. Ferne attended Cedarville Grade School and was a 1940 graduate of Freeport High School. On February 14, 1942 Ferne married August 'Augie' Ottenhausen in Freeport. He died January 2, 2006. They resided in Lena, Dakota and Freeport. Mrs. Ottenhausen was employed in the business office at Burgess Battery. She then was employed by American Savings and Loan and was a insurance broker for 21 years. Ferne and Augie then moved to Ladysmith, Wisconsin in 1975 and became co-owners and operators of Fireside Lodge. In 1985 Ferne and Augie moved to Lena. Mrs. Ottenhausen was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Tau Alpha Class of St. John, Sigma Thi Sorority, and Stephenson County Home Extension Sunset Unit for 56 years and Ladies of Elks. She was a former member of the Y.W.C.A. and was active with King'™s Daughters Home. Ferne is survived by her nephews; Alan S. (Kay) Lutz of Freeport. And Robert C. (Linda) Phillips of Wichita, Ks. Her great-nephew R. Clay (Abby) Lutz of Freeport. Her great-grand nephew Cayden Lutz, and great-grand niece, Trinity Lutz. Her sister in law, Lucille Ottenhausen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Robert. Funeral services for Mrs. Ottenhausen will be Friday, 10:00 A.M. at St. John United Church of Christ. Rev. Donnley Dutcher, pastor will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, 4:00-7:00 P.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport and from 9:00 A.M. until time of service Friday at the church.
