Eva P. Brookman, 91, of Freeport, died Saturday September 15, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Home in Freeport. She was born May 12, 1927, to Edward and Lillian (Carbiener) Stukenberg. Eva was raised by her father and her stepmother, Millie (Plager) on the farm that is now Highland Community College. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1944, and the attended Brown Business College. She married Gerald Brookman September 15, 1951, they had three children Diane, Nancy, and Rick. She worked for the Gil Rubly Insurance Agency. She was a Girl Scout leader and was a member of Sweet Adelines, and a fifty year member of Faith United Methodist Church. After moving to Lake Summerset, so Gerry could set up their security, she began a career in real estate. Eva is survived by her daughter, Diane (Chuck) Lofgren of Freeport, IL; daughter-in-law Becky Brookman; grandchildren, Brent (Jackie) Lofgren, Tori Brookman, and David Levy; great-grandchildren, Trinity and Andrew Lofgren; five step-grandchildren, Shelby (Dan) Kelley, Brandon Lofgren, Karen Driver, Amy Loeffenholz, and Bobby Levy; 18 step-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Mary Jo Dalton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry; daughter, Nancy Levy; son, Rick Brookman; grandson, Bryan Lofgren; brothers, Melvin and Lester; and sister, Alta (Roman) Fontenot. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday September 19, 2018 at Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Thomson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in her memory.
