Ethel Wiegmann

Ethel C. Wiegmann, 85 of Freeport passed October 28, 2011 at Freeport Memorial Hospital surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was born on August 11, 1926 in rural Baileyville to George and Ruth (Maize) Remmers. On September 26, 1950 she married Robert H. Wiegmann in Cave city, Kentucky in a double ceremony with her sister Florence. He died on August 1, 2006 and they shared 55 happy years of marriage. Her career included Burgess, Micro Switch, Newell, and home daycare. She was well known in the area for her delicious 'Ethel cakes' she made for nearly 40 years. Ethel was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Pearl City Legion Auxiliary and United Methodist Women. She regularly volunteered for RSVP, FACC and the Stephenson Nursing Center. She enjoyed pitching horseshoes, bowling, playing cards, bunco, and spending time at their cabin in Merrimac, Wisconsin. Surviving her are sisters: Edna Southard, Margaret McLane, Donna Starliper, brothers: George (Wanda) Remmers and Robert (Norma) McLane, sister-in-laws: Barbara Remmers, Martha Remmers, Mary Remmers, brother-in-laws: Virgil Page, and Phil (Doris) Wiegmann. Nieces and nephews: Barb (Jerry) Ludewig, Harvey (Cathy) Wilhelms, Ruth Page, Tommy (Laura) Page, JoAnn (Gordy) Greenberg, Johnny Page, Sandy (Mike) Falconer, Dale (Linda) Remmers, David (Coleen) Remmers, DeeAnn (Ron) Barr, Susan Remmers, Diana Howarth, Lisa (Harlan) Krohmer, Don (Annette) McLane, Angie (Travis) Conklin, Dustin (Shauna) McLane, Mathew (Joy) McLane and many great to great-great-great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-mother Kathleen Remmers, sisters, Opal (Harvey) Wilhelms, Florence Page, brothers Robert R. Remmers, Leo Remmers, Lester Remmers, Brother-in-laws Delbert Southard, David Starliper, and nephew Earl Remmers. Funeral service will be held Tuesday; 10:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, Reverend Julie Bunt, Pastor will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, 4:00 '" 7:00 p.m. at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, Illinois. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
