Ethel B. Fluegel

August 2, 1912 — July 18, 2011

Ethel B. Fluegel, 98, of Freeport went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Fluegel was born August 2, 1912 in New Bedford, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Carrie (Hall) Johnston. Ethel married Wesley J. Fluegel. He died on October 8, 1965. Ethel enjoyed tending to her flowers and vegetable garden, crocheting afghans for loved ones, and spending time with family and friends. She always thought the best of everyone, was a source of encouragement and inspiration to all who knew her, and she cared deeply for children. She was a member of The First Church of Nazarene in Freeport. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Owner of Freeport; granddaughter, Heather (Brett) Spengler of Freeport and grandson Kurt (Kathy Douglas) Owner of Freeport. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and infant son Larry Laverle, four sisters and three brothers. She is dearly loved more than words can express and will be deeply missed by her family. A Funeral service will be held Friday, 10:30 A.M. in The First Church of the Nazarene. Rev. John W. Hollis, Pastor will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, 5:00-7:00 P.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. until time of service Thursday at the church.
