Essie Louise Mazique

Essie Louise Mazique, 81, passed away on July 12, 2023 at Swedish American Health in Rockford, IL.

Essie was born on January 23, 1942 in Durant, MS the daughter of Luther and Hazel Morton Patterson. Essie attended and graduated from Freeport High School. She married Rossevelt Mazique on December 19, 1964 at their home in Freeport. Essie worked at Honeywell prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Freeport, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Essie was a devoted caregiver to her family. She also enjoyed watching TV, especially Soap Operas and she was a huge fan of Tyler Perry plays and movies.

Essie is survived by her husband, Roosevelt Mazique; two daughters, Christine (Kenneth) Taylor, Stacey (Shane) Flack, all of Freeport; five grandchildren Tasha Mazique, Gavin Taylor, Kevin (Liz) Flack, Danielle (Jonathan) Tobias, and Jordan Flack; 11 great-grandchildren, Tashon Mazique, Drake Taylor, Trevin Taylor, T'Aaron Mazique, Kinzlee Taylor, Gia Taylor, Autumn Taylor, Paisley Tobias, Avery Tobias, Charlotte Flack, and Kai Hazelbower; special niece, Carla (Jerry, Sr.) Fleming; and special cousin, Anna M. Bell, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Henry Patterson, Sr., Alice Pearson, LeeOfra Caine, Shirley Williams, and Luther Patterson, Jr.

Visitation will be from 11:00am until time of funeral service at 1:00pm on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport, with Reverend Peter Frank Williams, officiating. Entombment will follow immediately at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum in Freeport, IL.

Pallbearers are Gavin Taylor, JaMont Fleming, Kenneth Taylor, Shane Flack, Trevern Mazique and Tashon Mazique. Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Fleming, Sr., Henry Patterson, Jr., Darryl Caine, James Mazique and Raymond Mazique
