Emma Jean Turner 82, of Freeport passed away peacefully, on Thursday October 8, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. After a life well lived, Emma heard the Savior say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, enter thou unto the joy of your Lord." Emma was born on May 7, 1938 in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Eugene and Angie (Hayden) Turner. She attended Freeport Schools. She worked at Burgess Cellulose and Freeport Memorial Hospital, from where she retired. She attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church as a child and later joined Faith Temple Church of God in Christ where she Faithfully served on the Mother's Board and CWC. She loved her First Lady and her Pastor, whom she considered family. Emma enjoyed music, especially listening to the Blues. She enjoyed family gatherings, holiday celebrations and game nights with a multitude of family and friends. Emma is survived by one brother, Milton Marshall Bruce of Burnsville, Minnesota; 1 son, Kevin (Marilyn) Turner of Memphis Tennessee, two daughters, Kathleen Dixson of Freeport, Illinois, Sheila (Stephen) Owens of Freeport, Illinois; 1 daughter in-law, Effie Turner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 1 son in-law, Jessie Dixson, Sr. of Freeport; 6 grandchildren, Michael Hill, LaToya Horton, Bradford Corbitt, Marva Henderson, Chantellia Coleman, Jessie Dixson, Jr., Chelsea Owens, Morgan Owens; 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great- great grandchildren and her best friend, Hazel Sellers. Her memory will also be cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Angie Turner, one sister, Angie Mae Davis and one son, Alan Turner.
