Emanuel "Cat" Newton

Emanuel "Cat" Newton, 81, of Freeport, IL passed away January 18, 2022 at FHN Memorial Hospital. He was born April 11, 1940 in Webb, MS to Boston Newton Sr. and Eola Jackson. Emanuel was a welder for most of his life. He was a member of New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ Temple of Freeport, IL. Emanuel enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and most of all spending time with family. On Tuesdays he also enjoyed watching wrestling with his significant other Jannie. Emanuel could repair anything and was known as the "fix it man". Emanuel married Constance Taylor in 1964 in Freeport, IL., and to that union, they had four children, Richard, Terrence, Phyliss (Lori) And Tyrone. Surviving Emanuel are three sons Richard Newton of Freeport, IL, Terrence (Estelle) Newton of Freeport, IL, Maurice (Lorraine) Muhammad of Bloomington, IL; and adopted daughter Leah Davis of Freeport, IL; eight grandchildren, Paisley Walker of Freeport, IL, Sherman Simmons of Murfreesboro, TN, Jaleelah, Sumayyah, Khadirah, Jabril, Karriem and Sadiq Muhammad all of Bloomington, IL and eight Great-Grandchildren. Significant other of 27 years Jannie Ellis; nine siblings Boston Newton Jr. of Freeport, IL, Eola McClellan of Freeport, IL, Everlyn (Ezell) Jackson of Freeport, IL, Sam Newton of Freeport, IL. Lucy (Ronnie) Bush of Freeport, IL, Rosa Brown of Freeport, IL, David Newton of Freeport, IL, Earl Newton of Freeport, IL, and Leola Collins of Freeport, IL. And a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding Emanuel in death are his parents Boston and Eola, former wife; Constance Newton, daughter Phyliss (Lori) Newton, son Tyrone Newton, and two brothers Jerry Newton and Charlie Newton. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday January 29, 2022 at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Freeport, IL with Rev. Ezell Jackson Sr. officiating. A visitation will be held from noon until the time of service. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established in Emanuel's memory.
